My top three foundations

That dreaded time arrived once again, where I ran out of foundation and decided it was time to find a new one. It’s not that I didn’t love my foundation, it’s just once I started actively putting savings away and cutting costs at every corner, suddenly the money I was putting into my foundation seemed excessive.

Once I’m no longer saving for a deposit or earn a little more money, that will be the foundation I go back to because I do believe it’s worth the money, it’s just not money I can spare right now. In the spirit of hunting for a new foundation, I decided to list my three favourites with low, medium and high price tags to help you find your perfect base.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation – €33

This, you may remember, was my latest foundation that I fell in love with and subsequently ran out of. Even though it’s a powder foundation, it doesn’t dry out my skin or leave uneven patches. It has a surprisingly good coverage, covering blemishes and redness with less need for concealer or pressed powder. The only downside is the price if you’re looking for something a little cheaper.

Max Factor Face Finity All Day Flawless 3-in-1 Foundation – €16.99

Claire gave me this when she got it for herself only to discover that it was too light a shade. I like this foundation because it has the right shade, it lasts and it doesn’t dry out my skin. The flip side is it can be a bit heavy, a little goes a long way and there’s quite a dewy finish to it. Most people like the dewy look, but since I think it looks shiny on me, I double up with powder, so even though I would definitely use it again, it’s not the one I settled on.

Rimmel Fresher Skin Foundation – €10.49

The price alone had piqued my interest with this one. I got hold of a few samples and tried them out on a normal work day and then a weekend day. While the coverage is medium to light, it has some serious staying power. It’s not the foundation for you if you’re looking for medium to full coverage but if you don’t mind a lighter layer and you suffer from makeup sliding off your face, I would recommend giving this one a go, it’s my new favourite budget buy for foundation.
